Results of my indigo batik experiment

These are the 3" test tiles and I am very pleased with the look. Used virtually the same technique as for fabric, only I did use my silkscreens to get the blue print on raw clay. Today, I used the same technique for a box, also in blue. I will now experiment with other colors. I love the old look these have and am excited to use this decoration on several different forms.

Colorant is cobalt underglaze, silkscreened design, covered with wax while clay is still green/soft, then manipulated from back to cause wax to crack, them put black underglaze on top of wax which seeps through cracks. Problem with technique is that wax wants to fall off damp clay, I have another experiment now where I silkscreened pattern, then painted with shellac (in fridge now), which I will see if it cracks so I can put black over it. Shellac will burn off in kiln, as does wax. Please identify yourself in future, usually I mark all anonymous postings as spam.
